WebAbstract. Breast cancer is a disease that affects women >70 years of age much more frequently than other age groups. Epidemiologic data show that more than 40% of breast cancers occur in the elderly. The optimal primary treatment for elderly patients with breast cancer is controversial and ranges from tamoxifen as sole therapy to surgery. WebBreast cancer is the most common cancer in England, with around 41,200 women being diagnosed with the disease each year [1]. Breast cancer risk increases with age and a third of women diagnosed with the disease are aged 70 and over [1].
